The Minister of Health of Ethiopia stated that more than 7 thousand women are affected by cervical cancer every year in Ethiopia.
According to the Health Minister, 67 percent of cancer patients in the country are women. And 50 percent of the cancers diagnosed each year are affected by cervical cancer and breast cancer.
More than 600 thousand women are affected by cervical cancer in the world each year and 90 percent of those affected are in underdeveloped countries including Ethiopia.
The Ministry of Health is conducting various tests to prevent these diseases. More than 1,300 health facilities in the country are providing cervical cancer screening.
In Addis Ababa, government hospitals are providing cervical and breast cancer screening services.
However, the Public Relations Department of the Ministry of Health has announced that the number of women who go to health facilities and receive cancer screening is very small.
The ministry issued a statement saying that any woman between the ages of 30 and 49 should go to the nearest health facility and undergo breast and cervical cancer screening.
The Ministry of Health has stated that many women do not get screened for cervical and breast cancer early and go to hospitals after being severely affected by the disease.
On International Women’s Day, March 8, breast and cervical cancer screenings were conducted in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia.
The Ministry has announced that it is important to do health check-ups in advance to prevent the problem.
