Ethiopia proposed “Amharic” to be the working language of the AU 

Ethiopia proposed that Amharic language to be the working language of the African Union.

Ethiopian Minister of Foreign Affairs, Ambassador Taye Atsekeselassie; proposed Amharic as the working language of the African Union at the 44th regular meeting of the Executive Council of the African Union, which is being held in Addis Ababa.

As the Minister of Foreign Affairs, Ambassador Taye Atsik Selassie pointed out that Ethiopia’s request is in line with Africa’s 2063 agenda.

Ambassador Taye mentioned that the former Charter of the Organization ofኞረጋኒዛቲነ African Unity was signed in four languages ​​including Amharic.  He said that making Amharic the working language of the African Union is to accept Africa’s linguistic diversity and strengthen the common identity. He added that, this will help to bring the continent to a better level.
